In March 2007, Voces de la Frontera formed an alliance with local peace and labor groups around a common cause - ending both the war in Iraq and the undeclared domestic war on immigrants.

The groups pointed to the threads intimately linking the two, including multi-million dollar contracts handed to companies such as Boeing and Halliburton/KBR for both Iraq reconstruction and the construction of immigration detention centers and a militarized Mexico-U.S. border.

Myth: The United States cannot absorb present immigrant numbers

Fact: 11.5% of the U.S. population is foreign-born today. At the start of the last century it was 15%. Previous waves of immigrants were met with suspicion, too, yet all of them are now saluted for the contributions they have made.
